Room Selection & Assignments

Room Selection Overview

Room Selection allows students to choose a room for themselves and their confirmed roommate(s) during a designated timeframe in the housing student portal, based on availability. Access is granted through a Room Selection timeslot, which is determined by the housing application submission date (i.e., when the housing application fee was submitted).

Room Selection timeslots are sent to students’ Auburn email starting early March. Once your timeslot opens, log in to the housing student portal, select “Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 Housing Application,” and choose the appropriate term to proceed with Room Selection. Room Selection remains open until April 18.

Room Selection and Roommate(s)

To be assigned with a roommate(s), your roommate group must be confirmed before Room Selection begins. Once Room Selection starts, you cannot add or pull in a roommate. We recommend finalizing your roommate group before your timeslot. Visit our Roommate Selection page for details on forming groups.

During Room Selection, any confirmed roommate can make room assignments for the group. The roommate with the earliest timeslot should complete the selection. To assign all roommates, add all rooms to your cart and select all bed spaces. Once assigned, all roommates will receive a confirmation email to their Auburn email.

Roommates with later timeslots must wait until their timeslot opens to proceed to the assignment confirmation prepayment page. However, this prepayment must be completed by May 1 to avoid being dropped from the assignment.

Room Selection Confirmation

After selecting your space, you must confirm your room assignment by paying a $200 non-refundable assignment confirmation prepayment. This payment serves as a credit toward your fall rental rate if you attend Auburn University and live on campus.

The deadline to pay this fee or cancel your housing is May 1. Students who do not complete this payment will be dropped from their room assignment after the May 1 deadline. Several email reminders will be sent to your Auburn email if the payment remains outstanding. Be sure to check your email regularly and contact us if you believe you received these reminders in error.

Manual Room Assignments

  • For students eligible for Room Selection: If you do not select a room before the portal closes, you will be placed on standby and manually assigned a room based on availability. Important: If you secure other housing, be sure to cancel your housing application to avoid being manually assigned
  • For students applying on or after April 18: You will be placed on standby and manually assigned a room as space allows.
  • For students manually assigned after May 1: You are not required to pay the assignment confirmation prepayment but must cancel by the deadline listed in your assignment email if you no longer need housing.

Important Information about Room Assignments and Move-In

When selecting your space or receiving a manual assignment, note that some buildings may have later move-in dates due to renovations or other factors (e.g., summer residence halls). The earliest move-in dates for the following locations are listed below:

  • Plainsman Hall – Early move-in starting on August 7, available for regular move-in
  • Boyd Hall – Available for regular move-in only
  • Lupton Hall – Available for regular move-in starting on August 13

These dates are subject to change based on construction schedules and project completion.
