Students are able to participate in roommate selection during the housing application process. When filling out the housing application, students are able to complete a roommate matching profile questionnaire, search for potential roommates based off similar interests and add mutually requested roommates to their housing application.
The roommate selection portion of the application is meant to be completed at the applicant’s leisure. You will have until March to complete this part of the application, and you can log back in to your housing application at any time to add to or update your housing application.
Roommate Selection – Application Process
Special Interest Communities
Students are able to indicate their special interest community preferences during the housing application process. This is optional and not required to complete the application. Indicating a preference does not obligate or guarantee placement in a community. Students that indicate a preference will receive additional information on that community, if available. Please visit our special interest communities page to learn more.
Roommate Questionnaire
Students have the option of completing a roommate matching questionnaire during the roommate selection portion of the housing application. Students will be matched with others that have similar interests and viewable on the roommate matching portion of the housing application. This is optional and not required to complete the application.
Roommate Search
Students are able to search for potential roommates during the roommate selection portion of the housing application. Students are able to search for students based off similar interests (roommate questionnaire), first and last name, and student ID number. Students are able to view potential roommate profiles, message other students and request roommates through the roommate selection portal.
You are only able to search for roommates that have also applied for housing and paid the $100 housing application fee. If your preferred roommate has not applied for housing, you should complete the housing application during your application timeslot. Once your requested roommate has applied for housing, you can log back into your housing application to complete the roommate request.
Roommate Confirmation
Students are able to request and confirm roommate pairs through the roommate selection portal. Roommate requests are considered pending until both students have confirmed the roommate pair. Students will receive messages in the portal when a roommate pair is confirmed or canceled.
Roommate Groups
Students are able to form roommate groups up to groups of 4 (i.e. a group of 2, a group of 3 or a group of 4).
VERY IMPORTANT! Students are only able to pull in groups of 4 into available suites in the Village, The Union, or 191 College. The 4-person suite must be completely vacant in order for the group to be assigned to that space. If there is no availability, groups of 4 will receive an error when trying to select a room and the group must be canceled in order to proceed with room selection.
Students wanting to select a space in South Donahue, Quad or Hill (or a 2-person suite in Village, The Union, or 191 College) must form groups of 2.
A roommate group must be confirmed before either student participates in room selection. If you participate in room selection and then find a roommate, you will each need to choose an available space in a vacant room in order to be roommates.
Desired housing areas | Roommate group maximum |
Village | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
191 College | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
The Union | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
Quad | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
South Donahue | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
Hill | Up to 4 students in a roommate group |
Roommate Selection – Room Selection Process
Room Selection with a Roommate Group
Students with mutually confirmed roommates will have the option of assigning the roommate(s) during the room selection process. Students with the earlier room selection timeslot will be able to select the room for their roommate group by assigning each roommate to a bed. All students in a roommate group will receive an email to their Auburn email account when a room assignment has been made. Students can also view their room assignment and roommate information by logging into the housing student portal.
Room Assignment and Roommate Information
Students can log into their housing student portal and housing application to view updated room assignment and roommate information at any time. We encourage students without a roommate group (i.e. potluck option) to log in to the portal to view updated roommate information periodically throughout the room selection and manual assignment process.
